Plan ahead for Thanksgiving

Squash soup with bacon optional.

It certainly feels much more traditional to cook a huge Thanksgiving feast for your family and friends, but after all the time we’ve spent in our kitchens during the Covid lockdown, eating out or ordering in for Thanksgiving might be the way to go this year. Think of it this way: not only is it a whole lot easier, it’s a great way to support and keep our favorite island restaurants going. Here, we give you a few our favorite ways to do Thanksgiving––from going out and being served to ordering in.

Bettini Restaurant – Begin with Endive Salad and Butternut Squash Soup. Then, enjoy their savory, herb-roasted turkey, served with all the traditional fixings: creamy mashed potatoes, sausage and roasted apple stuffing, crispy brussel sprouts, and sweet potato gratin to name a few. Finish with homemade apple or pumpkin pie. Savor the taste of home with a breathtaking view of Edgartown Harbor and Lighthouse. Call 508-627-3761 or book online here.

The Black Dog Tavern - Enjoy all the fixin's of a homemade Thanksgiving dinner while taking in the extraordinary view of Vineyard Haven Harbor from their cozy Tavern. Reservations only. As a courtesy to other diners and to maintain social distancing, reservations are limited to 90 minutes per seating. They are also offering individual take-out meals that must be placed by 11/24. Please call us at 508-693-9223 for more information and to make a reservation.

Black Sheep –Place your order by calling 508-338-7770 before 4 p.m. on Monday November 15th to enjoy a full feast in the comfort of your home, or just stop by 17 Airport Road Edgartown. You can start the day with their breakfast pumpkin bread or cranberry orange bread. Appetizers include brie in puff pastry with cranberry chutney and baked artichoke dip with crostini. They offer a breadbasket with assorted rolls and cheddar rosemary scones and dry, brined, herb roasted turkey with gravy as well as a huge assortment of traditional side dishes and pies. Check out the menu here.

Morning Glory Farm – They’ll take the work out of dinner and you can pick up and enjoy it all at home. Naturally-raised turkeys, turkey breasts and gravy from Outpost Farm (order deadline Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. for these) along with your favorite sides, soups, farm-baked breads, quiches and pies, fabulous cheese platters and much more. You can also order their Thanksgiving fresh flower arrangement, presented in a glass compote for your classic table or in a farm-grown squash to befit a more rustic setting.
